This past month, I went home to Maine for a week. While there, I paid a visit to Acadia National Park.
I love Acadia, and I go every chance I get. Seriously, if I’m within a three-hour drive of the place, I will find a way to get out there for at least a quick day trip. This time around, my brother and I spent three days exploring the park. I had never been to Acadia in winter, so I was excited to see what the park would be like.
It was warm, for Maine in February anyway, but my cold tolerance has shrunk dramatically since I’ve been living in the godforsaken swamp state, so I was still plenty cold. It was good, though. I’ve missed it. I’ve also missed seeing snow. There wasn’t a lot (especially for Maine in February), but there was still plenty to delight me. It’s been five years since I’ve seen snow in person, so I was excited by that, too. I was probably the only person in the entire state excited to see that. Sorry, all, but did I mention that it’s been five years?
The park itself was really lovely. I usually end up going in the summer, right in the middle of the peak season, and there are so many people everywhere, it can be a hassle. Winter in Acadia was much, much quieter.
Anyway, here are a few of the pictures we took while we were there…
Other Notable February Achievements
—Walked 84 miles. Thanks, Acadia!
—Read one short story and two whole books. One was of one of those “Choose Your Own Adventure” novels I loved as a kid. I found it in a bookstore near Acadia and couldn’t resist buying it. My brother and I went on two adventures. He turned into a unicorn and was able to save his village. I fell into a hole in a cave and died.
—Apparently sold a book. (I don’t know who you are, kind soul, but thank you! It is much appreciated! And should you choose to read it, I sincerely hope you enjoy it. But, just in case you’re interested in alternate uses, my books also tend to make pretty decent doorstops and/or spider squishers.)
—Snuggled with my puppies, of course. To close out this post, here’s a shot of Charles Edgar Cheeserton III being not at all clingy upon my return from Maine:
How are things in your corner of the world? Hope you had a great February and are having a wondering March.
Thanks for stopping by. Be safe and well, all.
Great pics! And is it weird I got a huge kick out of that seagull painting and your musing about the artist? 🙂
Probably no weirder than my calling out “Sea gull butt!” every time my brother and I walked past the painting. 🙂
Such gorgeous photos!!! This has sure been a weird winter.
Except for piles from snowblowing the driveway, we have next to no snow here either.
Charles Edgar doesn’t look needy at all…
One of the pictures I didn’t post was me standing on a snowbank in a parking lot, because that’s where all the snow was. Weird, but the lack of storms did make driving a lot easier.
Thanks for the photos! Acadia would definitely be my choice in a Choose Your Adventure. Especially because there’s not any caves.
There is a sea cave at Schooner Head…We saw it when we were there and were joking about how I would have to be extra careful not to fall in.
Fabulous vacation photos! I’m a big fan of the ‘winter lite’ we’re enjoying this year. It’s made being outdoors much more accessible get all those steps in. Your dog is adorable.
I know the skiers must be disappointed with the lack of snow, but it does make getting outside a lot easier for the rest of us.
Ha, I remember that picture of you on the beach in winter. Good to know New England still runs in your veins.
I was happy to know that, too. I have worried. 🙂
Only places that don’t have snow would make you nostalgic for snow. I imagine if you were still in Maine, you’d not enjoy the snow so much? Apparently we had a blizzard in our mountains this past weekend, but where I’m at, no snow. We’re similar to your home in that regard.
Oh, most definitely. If I were still in New England, I’d be doing a daily happy dance at the lack of snow.
Love the pictures. It looks like it was a fun trip! If you’re really missing the snow, I have plenty here in Idaho for you. 🙂
Beautiful place! I can see why you miss it. And such a variety between rocks and sand. And ice! Thanks for sharing your fun adventure.
Oh my! I need to get up to Acadia State Park some time lovely! And congrats on the mystery sale!
Just gorgeous!
It looks gorgeous, if chilly! Great photos.
Lovely pictures.
