So, last month I was…well, ‘celebrating’ seems like the wrong word because I’m me and I’m a barely functioning bundle of anxiety and imposter syndrome, so let’s just say that last month I was acknowledging the ten-year anniversary of my publishing debut, Effigy, by engaging in thirty-one days of marketing hell fun. (For reasons not within my control, I ultimately only made it through about twenty-six days of marketing hell fun, but close enough.)
In doing so, I made a number of graphics that were shared across various social media platforms. I used Canva and my thirty-day free “pro” subscription (that I have since failed to cancel, so now I’m paying for at least another month of the pro subscription) to create them…and solidified the hard truth that I am a pretty poor graphic designer. Still, I had a good time playing around with it, so I guess that counts for something.
Anyway, here now, for your viewing (and mocking…that’s totally fair and valid) pleasure is the complete collection of The Coileáin Chronicles promotional graphic things.
The arrow promo things
The Aesthetic Moodboard Thing
The “How it started/How it’s going” Duo
The World Emoji Day “my book as emojis” Things
Thanks to everyone who tolerated the thirty-one twenty-six or so days of hell fun. I promise it’ll be a while before I attempt anything like this again!
Other July achievements:
—Sold a book. (So I guess maybe my marketing efforts were not for naught?) I don’t know who you are, intrepid reader, but I salute you. If you choose to read it, I hope you enjoy it. If you choose to read it and hate it, I appreciate you trying.
—Read the Heartstopper graphic novel series and two of the companion novellas by Alice Oseman. I really enjoyed them and all the feels they gave me.
—Walked a total of 72.09 miles. Not my highest total, but not the lowest, either.
How has your summer been?
Thanks for stopping by. It’s always much appreciated. Be safe and well, all.
The two with the arrows cracked me up! I really do like the mood board one. I can totally see it as a book cover.
I saw your pictures on Instagram and I LOVE them. You did an awesome job.
The graphics are really cool!
I can’t wait for this summer to be over, and not just because of the heat. Glad you’ve had some success though.
I was cracking up at the graphics with the arrows!
Hey, 26/31 days is pretty impressive. I probably would have only made it a week.
Those are hilarious! It’s important to keep a sense of humor when trying to market. And congrats on 10 years! Nice milestone. @samanthabwriter from
Balancing Act
I love your marketing “ads.” I saw them in Instagram. Great job.
Most of those are really funny. The “be the 4th to read it” probably didn’t help the cause much though. “What everyone’s reading why aren’t you?” would be even better.
Those graphics are lovely. We can’t all be graphic designers. That’s why Canva exists. Congrats on 10 years. That’s huge. (My summer? Well, I currently have Covid, so…)
I kind of loved those graphics! They’re so you…
